Founded in 2005, the Association of Professional Academic Institutions, West Bengal (APAI, WB) stands as the authoritative voice for all self-financed Engineering & Technological institutions across the region. Serving as the primary liaison, APAI facilitates critical interactions with three key governing bodies: the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal)—formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology—and the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.

Through strategic advocacy and collaborative efforts, APAI champions the interests and enhances the standards of its member institutions, contributing significantly to the advancement and quality of technical education in the state. By producing a large number of engineers, mechanical experts, and management executives every year, APAI helps to meet the demands of various industries primarily within West Bengal. This initiative aims to make the state self-sufficient and positions it among the leading states in the country in terms of technological progress.

APAI works in close liaison with the Higher Education Department of the Government of West Bengal, MAKAUT, and the Central Selection Committee. Additionally, APAI collaborates with FAMPEI, its representative body at the national level, to implement the directives of the AICTE. This collaboration aims to achieve the Association's vision while providing necessary support and relief to various colleges in deserving cases.
